Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson commended his old pal and former “The Mummy Returns” co-star Brendan Fraser on Monday after the latter received a standing ovation at the Venice International Film Festival.
Fraser, 53, broke down in happy tears on Sunday following a screening of his upcoming Darren Aronofsky movie, “The Whale.”
His role as a 600-pound man in the drama has been widely praised before its official release later this year.
Johnson, 50, tweeted a tribute to his friend on Sunday: “Man this makes me so happy to see this beautiful ovation for Brendan.
“He supported me coming into his ‘Mummy Returns’ franchise for my first ever role, which kicked off my Hollywood career. Rooting for all your success brother and congrats to my bud Darren Aronofsky,” the former WWE star went on.
“The Mummy Returns” premiered in 2001, as a sequel to 1999’s “The Mummy.” Johnson portrayed the character Scorpion King in the second installment while Fraser reprised his role of tomb raider Rick O’Connell.
Johnson’s performance even garnered his own spinoff, “The Scorpion King,” in 2002.
Fraser — who has mainly stayed out of the spotlight in recent years — is making his Hollywood comeback in “The Whale.”
The film follows Charlie, a heavily obese man who feels lost in life as he tries to reconnect with his estranged 17-year-old daughter.
“It’s gonna be like something you haven’t seen before,” the “George of the Jungle” actor told Unilad last year about his performance.
“The wardrobe and costume was extensive, seamless, cumbersome,” Fraser continued.
He added: “This is certainly far removed from anything I’ve ever done but not to be coy … I do know it’s going to make a lasting impression.”
