Singer Matt Healy of the 1975 left adoring fans speechless at Madison Square Garden on Monday as he devoured a slab of raw meat onstage.
As part of an Amazon Music UK event, the British band broadcast their live set via Twitch — and really gave viewers something to chew on as the 33-year-old musician ripped off his shirt, pretended to masturbate and then began wolfing down the meat.
What’s more: Famed British actress Denise Welch, Healy’s own mother, also got an eyeful of his animalistic antics that night. The “Coronation Street” star, 64, tweeted a photo of herself alongside three other guests outside MSG, captioning it, “Oh what a night!”
It’s as yet unclear what kind of animal was butchered to create the “Love Me” crooner’s provocative prop, though the cut appeared to be some variety of bone-in chop.
Nevertheless, concertgoers and viewers at home expressed bewilderment at the bizarre charade.
“Mom Dad, why is Matty Healy eating raw meat at the ‘1975’ show,” wrote one Twitter user, who shared footage of the shocking act. “Idk if it’s real meat also this was NOT my attempt at anti-1975 propaganda the show is genuinely good.”
“Matty pretended to masturbate, do push-ups and ate raw meat on stage and YET I’m not surprised,” said one fan.
“Rip to anyone going to this show with their parents,” joked another.
To that, Welch clapped back, “What about when you ARE the parent!!!”
