2023 Belmont Stakes odds, horses and post positions: Breaking down the final Triple Crown leg

The field of horses, post positions, and morning-line odds are set for the final leg of the Triple Crown.

The 2023 Belmont Stakes is set to take place on Saturday, June 10, at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York.

The field features nine horses and is headlined by No. 6 Forte, who is the morning-line favorite at 5-2.

One month ago, Forte was scratched from the Kentucky Derby after being installed as the 4-1 favorite in the Run for the Roses.

Forte did not run in the Preakness Stakes and hasn’t competed since April 1 when he defeated Mage in the Florida Derby.

Forte’s stablemate, No. 2 Tapit Trice (3-1), is the second-choice ahead of Kentucky Derby post-time favorite and third-place finisher No. 8 Angel of Empire (7-2) and Preakness winner No. 4 National Treasure (5-1).

With four of the nine horses sitting between 5-2 and 5-1, this field feels like a battle of the haves and have not’s, so it’ll be interesting to see if any of the horses outside of the projected top four get any substantial betting support.

Perhaps that horse will be No. 3 Arcangelo (8-1), who is coming off a win at the Peter Pan Stakes at Belmont Park just four weeks ago.

The price on No. 7 Hit Show (10-1) will be worth watching ahead of this race. Although he only finished fifth at the Kentucky Derby, it was a sneaky good performance but likely wasn’t notable enough to attract much betting support.

That could make Hit Show, who finished second in the Wood Memorial at Belmont, an intriguing longshot for punters looking for big prices to add to their exotics.

The two biggest long shots in the field are No. 1 Tapit Shoes (20-1) and the aptly named No. 5 Il Miracolo (30-1).

The last time a horse with double-digit odds won the Belmont was back in 2019 when Sir Winston took down the field as a 12-1 winner.
