After what was a nightmare series against the Atlanta Braves, the Mets hoped to turn their fortunes in Pittsburgh in a weekend series with the Pirates.

Unfortunately, they were only able to leave the Steel City with one win and left looking like a team that might just be mediocre.

Nelson Figueroa and special co-host guest Marc Malusis talk about why this Mets team could possibly be just a .500 club, and how perhaps last season’s success was nothing more than a mirage.

While it’s not getting late early just yet, they’ll have a chance to springboard their season against the Yankees with a big Subway Series matchup this week at Citi Field.

Amazin’ But True Podcast with Nelson Figueroa & Marc Malusis:

  • SINKING SHIP? Though the Mets escaped Pittsburgh with one win, the Pirates exposed a few of the Mets’ biggest flaws, including an offense that might sink without Pete Alonso at the wheel.
  • ROSTER CHANGES As the bullpen continues to falter, the Mets made some changes by designating Tommy Hunter and Stephen Nogosek for assignment. Could there be future changes if the team continues to falter?
  • CLOSED-DOOR MEETING Following their loss on Friday, Buck Showalter held a meeting with the players in the midst of a seven-game losing streak. They were able to snap out of the funk on Saturday but went back to the losing ways on Sunday.
  • SUBWAY SERIES PREVIEW For the first time this season, the Subway Series stops at Citi Field on Tuesday where both New York teams will try to battle for supremacy of the city. With no Aaron Judge or Pete Alonso scheduled to play, both teams will need a few key players to step up.
