A crime suspect with multiple felony warrants died after crashing a stolen Lamborghini Huracán at over 100 mph during a police chase in Los Angeles, the force of the impact splitting the car in half and launching the driver hundreds of feet through the air.
Dashcam footage from the LAPD shows the moment officers stopped Elliott Dugan, 51, on the morning of April 6 at the intersection of Sherman Way and Reseda Boulevard after spotting him asleep at the wheel of the $250,000 supercar.
After pulling him over, one of the officers asks for his documents, and after finding that the car was reported stolen and that Dugan had multiple warrants for his arrest, the cop asks him to step out of the car.
Dugan refuses, claiming to know the law better than the officer, and when he’s informed that the 2019 Lamborghini Huracán was stolen, Dugan books it.
Surveillance footage of the pursuit shows that Dugan reached 113 mph as he fled from police on surface streets.
The chase was short-lived, however, as the Lamborghini crashed into a median on Sherman Way with such force that it split the car in half and sent Dugan’s body flying several hundred feet, according to the LAPD.
When officers caught up to Dugan, they encountered the smoldering remains of the wrecked Lamborghini and twisted auto debris littering the roadway.
Pieces of the destroyed Lamborghini were lodged into several cars parked along Sherman Way, causing moderate to major damages to the vehicles’ windows and roofs.
Several trees planted along the median were also knocked down and scattered on the ground from the sheer force of the impact.
It took officers several minutes to track down Dugan’s body, which was found on a sidewalk near an apartment complex.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The LAPD said the investigation into Dugan and the crash remain ongoing.
The police department declined to provide further details about the suspect and the incident.
