Lizzo’s zodiac sign reveals why she’s got the ‘juice’ to live ‘good as hell’

All hail Lizzo, innovator, body icon, slayer of woodwinds and terminator of trolls.

To celebrate the release of her reality show, “Watch Out for the Big Grrrls,” and her next trip around the sun, we’re taking a look at the guiding stars and foundational planets of Lizzo’s birth chart. Twinkle and twerk, read on to learn more.

Double earth sign

Melissa Viviane Jefferson, born April 27, 1988, and known to the world as HRH Lizzo, is a stalwart Taurus sun with a grind or die Virgo moon. Both Lizzo’s sun and moon are in earth signs, a combination that lends itself to a punishing work ethic and a reward system that prioritizes creature comforts.

Taurus rules the second house of self-worth, value and possessions and it comes as no surprise that Lizzo’s personal and professional trajectory has hinged upon her adoption of radical self-love. Further, Taurus is about reception and cultivating the belief that we deserve to receive, a sentiment Lizzo has mastered, telling Teen Vogue, “People, especially artists, are so afraid of looking thirsty. They don’t want to ask for the things that they want.”

“But you’ve got to ask and you’ll receive,” she added.

In true Taurus fashion, Lizzo would rather appear thirsty than ever feel parched. Taurus is synonymous with indulgence and it tracks that Lizzo would equate the purchase of Gucci boots with “self-care” and, pre-COVID, bless the front row at her shows by passing around a bottle of Patrón.

Tied as they are to the house of assets, Taureans have a well earned reputation for being materialistic. Indeed, bulls find comfort in beauty and peace through their possessions. After all, Lizzo christened her flute Sasha and keeps it enshrined in a Swarovski crystal case for safekeeping. In terms of the physical body, Taurus rules the throat, imbuing natives with melodic voices and the power to punish flutes and/or speak their truth.

For Taureans, who not only hold but name and nurture their grudges, vengeance takes the form of financial success and looking good.

For Taureans, who not only hold but also name and nurture their grudges, vengeance takes the form of financial success and looking good. We see this quality in Lizzo, whose recipe for rebounding after a breakup, per “Truth Hurts,” includes, fresh hair, a fresh photo shoot and fresh NFL arm candy. In responding via Instagram Live to vitriolic statements made about her, Lizzo signed off with “‘Bout to go make some bad bitch money, and y’all stream ‘Rumors.'” Can’t keep a bad bitch down or a Taurus from getting theirs.

Moon in Virgo

Within the birth chart, the moon relates to our instincts, emotional interiority and the nurturing we did and didn’t receive as children. Moon-in-Virgo folks are practical, baby, with an eye on survival and the ability to see the potential in all things, qualities exhibited by Lizzo who, when asked what beauty essentials she would require on a deserted island, replied, “If I’m on a deserted island, I would not have any beauty products with me. Can I have a walkie-talkie, some AA batteries, a f – – king flamethrower, some coconut crackers so I can crack open coconuts, and a knife so I could hunt for fish? I’m trying to be discovered … or just have a great life on an island.” And with that Lizzo declares her rightful place on everyone’s zombie apocalypse team.

Moon in Virgo folks have high standards for themselves and others, their motto being ‘don’t be sorry, be better.’ For eternal ray of Taurus sunshine Lizzo, this manifests as her desire for others to love themselves and for society at large to become better, more accepting and generally less hate mongering.

Straight talk and hater-silencing

Mercury is the fast moving planet of communication, intellect and mental processing and Lizzo has hers in the direct, defiant, consistently unapologetic sign of Taurus. These natives do not suffer fools or hesitate to clap back. Case in point, Lizzo’s shutdown of Dr. Boyce Watkins, a Twitter troll who suggested her popularity was a negative consequence of the obesity epidemic in America.

“I’m popular because I write good songs and I’m talented and perform high energy hour and a half shows filled with love,” Lizzo replied. “The only person who needs to do better is you. Keep my name out ya mouth & look in the mirror before you come for me. Here’s the attention you ordered.” Consider yourself served and silenced, doc.

Mars in Aquarius

Lizzo has Mars, planet of action and advancement in freedom loving, expect-the-unexpected Aquarius. Mars represents our will, approach to conflict and style of attainment. In Aquarius, Mars is creative and subversive, approaching situations with the intent to shock, provoke change and/or dismantle outdated standards. As writer Shammara Lawrence attests, “Lizzo does not need anyone else’s approval to make a statement. Her creativity, and how she chooses to translate it visually and sonically, is boundless. Lizzo does not ask for permission to be who she is.” Being utterly unconcerned with permission, approval or precedent is a hallmark of Aquarian energy.

With her mic drop caption, “PUT ME IN THE LOUVRE HOE,” Lizzo lets us know that art ain’t just what she makes, but who she is.

Mars in Aquarius natives are proud of their independence and feel a kind of ordained responsibility to oppose, question and challenge normativity. We see this energy in Lizzo, who told People Magazine, “I had to blaze a trail. There was no Lizzo before Lizzo.” Indeed, in the process of blazing that trail, Lizzo has become a force in our collective culture. A self-anointed body icon open about her “coochie” piercing and her desire to pose nude for Playboy, Lizzo took her subversion of the status quo to gloriously photoshopped lengths, superimposing her face on the Mona Lisa, thereby asserting herself as a new standard of venerable beauty. With her accompanying mic drop caption, “PUT ME IN THE LOUVRE HOE,” this maverick Mars lets us know that art ain’t just what she makes but who she is.

Aquarius is the sign of the rebellious humanitarian, suggesting that Lizzo will spend considerable energy elevating outsiders and dismantling systems that support the status quo. Indeed, Lizzo is making a point and a reality series out of her search for plus size backup dancers. In the trailer for “Watch Out for the Big Grrrls,” Lizzo explains, “Girls that look like me don’t get representation. It’s time to pull up my sleeves and find them myself.” Indeed, the tenacity of Lizzo’s Taurus sun coupled with her progressive Aquarian Mars sets the stage for an aesthetic revolution.

Venus in Gemini, bad bitchh, noncommittal

In astrology, Venus is related to relationships, our attachment style and how we give and receive love. Lizzo’s Venus is in Gemini, a sign associated with cerebral exchange and emotional detachment.

Fickle be the heart of Venus in Gemini and brave be the mothertrucker that comes for it. Because Gemini is ruled by Mercury, planet of communication, natives need to be intellectually stimulated in order to feel physical attraction. These folks ooze charm, wield wit and excel at sexting but can often struggle with monogamy and long term commitments. Because they bore easily and disassociate habitually, (“Truth hurts, needed something more exciting”), it’s often challenging for them to deepen or go the distance in their romantic relationships.

There’s a real fear among Venus in Gemini natives that forging a partnership and placing trust in another person means surrendering a part of themselves, i.e., “You’re supposed to hold me down/But you’re holding me back.” Allergic to codependency, they can swing wildly in the opposite direction. As Lizzo declares in her bop “Boys,” “Baby, I don’t need you/I just wanna freak you.” Preach.

We also see the expression of Lizzo’s Venus in Gemini in her vocal approach to self-love and unshakable commitment to herself. Case in point, her ode to the erotic potential of her own reflection in “Scuse Me” and her very sage, very Gemini choice to marry herself in the video for “Truth Hurts.”

Lizzo’s Venus is conjunct Chiron, an asteroid that indicates where we feel insufficient or broken. Chiron is the wound we must suture in order to attain wholeness and provide others with a pathway towards a similar reconciliation. This relationship, between the expression of femininity and cultural catharsis helps explain how and why Lizzo’s self-acceptance has coincided with a national discourse about bodies and our fraught relationships to and with them. As she professed to Variety, “What I’m trying to do is dismantle every stereotype that I have the power to do. I’m destroying them by just living and being incredible all the time.”

Keep on living, keep on shining, keep on being, Lizzo, we love you!
