New York elections 2022 live results map: Which races remain too close to call

Gov. Kathy Hochul pulled off a victory Tuesday night, although Republican challenger Lee Zeldin refused to concede until Wednesday afternoon. The surprisingly tight race saw Democrats deploy some of their biggest guns in a final push to the finish.

Hochul initially appeared to have the race in the bag, but Zeldin’s recent surge in the polls had lead RealClearPolitics to call the contest a toss-up, with President Biden and Bill and Hillary Clinton lending their star power to New York in recent days.

The Empire State also featured a series of competitive congressional contests, including the closely watched match-up between US Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (D-Newburgh) and state Assemblyman Mike Lawler (R-Pearl River). Maloney conceded the race to Lawler late Wednesday morning.

Maloney is chairman of the Democratic National Campaign Committee — which supports the party’s House candidates — and his loss marks the first ouster of someone holding that post since 1980.

Other candidates running neck and neck included Republican County Executive Marc Molinaro and Democrat Josh Riley, a former aide to ex-Minnesota Sen. Al Franken.

They’re vying to succeed former Democratic Rep. Anthony Delgado, who resigned to become lieutenant governor after Hochul’s first No. 2, Brian Benjamin, got busted on bribery charges in an alleged campaign finance scheme.

Navy veterans Brandon Williams, a Republican, and Iraq War veteran and former Pentagon adviser Francis Conole are running to succeed Rep. John Katko (R-Auburn), who announced his retirement after becoming one of only 10 GOP House members who voted to impeach former President Donald Trump over the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol.

Williams declared victory, however the race was not called as of Wednesday morning.
